Welcome To J-ville Where The Playas Play!

Not much to say or report. Having fun at home. Indy beat J-ville and it broke my heart. Most likely Indy will go undefeated, but I think the refs should stop hiding it and just wear blue horseshoes on their chests! Though the game ended in a J-ville loss the day wasn't a total loss. I saw a fight break out two sections over. I think the fight proves some valuable lessons.

The Jaguars/Colts rivalry has been very competitive since the NFL reformatted the divisions. It was upon the Colts entering the AFC South with Jacksonville that I lost some love for Peyton Manning (ok, a lot of love) and began to refer to him as "The Great Satan." Seriously, how can one man do what he does without selling his soul to the devil?! About every season the Jags go 1-1 against the Colts until now. So when J-ville is down by 23 points in the 4th quarter, fans can be unruly. Sure enough, one Jags fan thought it would be fun to start fights with Colts fans. This is where the fun ensued.

First of all, this ONE Jaguar fan picks a fight with approximately FOUR Colts fans. Not only is he just one Jag fan - he's about a 120 pound Jaguar fan. The event security staff tries to break up this on-coming beatdown before anything happens but the Jag fan believes somewhere in his mind that he not only can take the four Colts fans but the event staff. The event staff then brings in a cop...not just any cop - a HUGE cop. I don't mean chunky huge either. I mean genetic freak huge. This guy didn't just come form Dunkin' Donuts. He just came from Gold's Gym. The cop had to be about 6'5" and 280 lbs. of pure muscle.

Rule of the wise: NEVER fight a cop! The cop will always win. There are more of them than there are of you. Second rule of the wise: NEVER fight a cop that is one foot and 150 lbs. your superior. At that point you're just asking for trouble.

Sadly but comicly, this guy never knew of these rules and took a swing at the cop. With one arm, this cop picked up the guy, slammed him on the stairs, and cuffed him. The dude resists arrest and tries to get away from him - while handcuffed! His resistance was futile and the cop dragged the guy up the stairs with ease. The event made the fourth quarter worthwhile to stick around for as between plays the altercation was posted on the Titantron TV =)

I know alcohol can do wonders for people as a nerve builder. They don't call it "liquid courage" for nothing, but seriously what possesses a man to believe that not only can he fight four guys and an event staff crew but the hugest cop the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office ever produced?! During the holiday season, lay off the booze. It would pain me to know a friend or loved one ends up like this guy because it would force me to laugh at you. =P Merry Christmas to all!

When Texas Freezes Over

Who would have thought it could happen?! Just when you think Texas has thrown everything it possibly can at you (tornadoes, hurricanes, heat waves, etc.) it keeps on coming with surprises. My year and half in this Lone Star State has been something memorable. Today was definitely a day to not forget.

Kristen called me Wednesday morning and I was already awake - that alone should make the day memorable. It's not often I'm awake at 9am on a non-school day. Most of the day was spent with Kristen and braving the elements as it was below freezing with icy roads.

Now I know I've mentioned before, and also in my profile, I'm from Florida. Something one should know about Florida: we don't have icy roads...EVER! This was definitely a milestone and learning experience all at the same time. Yes, driving on icy roads became my lesson of the day! The lesson: "Avoid driving on icy roads!"

The evening finished off nice with chili, the movie Elf, and me spazzing as to whether or not my flight back home to Florida was going to be cancelled or not. The chili was the first time I actually cooked something in around a year. Most of my culinary life in seminary has been eating sandwiches, eating ramen, eating soup, and eating out. I was pleasantly pleased with how it turned out.

Well that sums up the day Texas froze over. If this follows me to Florida I'm going to lose my mind. As it stands right now my flight is going to leave on time =)
I'll keep all of you posted over the next month with happenings back in Florida. Take care and stay warm.
